BREMAP is a web based Geographical Information System (GIS)
developed by BRE and funded by Biffaward through landfill tax
credits and a grant from the Institution of Civil Engineers R&D
Enabling Fund.
Type in the postcode of your site and BREMAP will pin point waste
management facilities and materials/products within a region or radius
of your chosen distance.
This simple process has the potential to transform the management of
construction and demolition (C&D) waste as it will
- Create firm relationships between the C&D Industry and local
reclamations, recyclers and re-processors
- Create markets for recycling and reuse of materials and products
- Reduce the transportation of waste
- Increase the knowledge of available waste disposal options and materials/products
available in the vicinity of your site.
BREMAP is an interactive tool designed to help you define the
best practicable environmental option (BPEO) for your waste, and
can be used to enhance your waste management as a part of the
SMARTWaste
System. Whereas SMARTStart
and SMARTAudit
identify and analyse waste generation on a site by site basis,
and SMARTStartLG helps
Local Government monitor the performance of projects in their
portfolio, BREMAP will offer various waste solutions depending
on the location of your site.
A myriad of databases and industry literature already exist individually
detailing landfill sites, transfer stations, incinerators, recycling
sites, reclamation companies, composting facilities and manufacturer
take-back schemes. However, BREMAP encapsulates all this information
into a consistent and accessible format, which focuses on the waste
management options for each user, guided by the site postcode. Upon
entering the postcode of your site, BREMAP will present you with
a map representing the different services available in your area via
symbols. Click your preferred service (symbol) and more details will
be presented.
Besides waste facilities, BREMAP will be able to identify
products and materials that are available. This part of the database
will be updated daily to ensure the latest information on material
and product availability is relayed. This service is possible
due to the links between BREMAP and the Salvo Material Information
Exchange (SalvoMIE). A link from the BREMAP site to the
SalvoMIE
will also enable you to enter details of any materials and products
your company has available.
